presentable dogs

In looking at several websites full of adoptable dogs, the first thing I noticed was how badly I was tempted to ignore my landlord and bring one of these puppies home. The second thing I noticed was how the descriptions of dogs could be put in a few categories:

1. The reasonable kind. A very factual list of endearing dog attributes, any restrictions the dog may have, and maybe a call to action of "you'll love this dog" or "come meet this dog" at the end. Nothing too crazy

2. The cutesy kind. Often written as though the dog is writing it itself. One even used "HEWWO" as the intro before having the "doggo" describe himself.

3. The journal. More of a description of how the dog's life at the kennel has been, his walking schedule, his behavior, what names he responds to. Written from the perspective of kennel staff.

4. The senior. Senior dog descriptions have a special place in my heart. Senior dogs are always described in the most tender soft ways, like "He is an old soul looking for a comfy place to sleep and a dear friend to cuddle". Reading these while knowing its harder for senior dogs to get adopted makes me want to cry.

I can't say which is most effective (although that would be an interesting study), but personally, the overly cutsey kind put me off, but an overly distant description made me a little sad. I loved the ones that gave a great insight into the dog's personality and traits and had good pictures. Something else I noticed is the pictures of more pitbull-type dogs often have a tutu, or a flower crown, or a silly hat which is adorable and I love, and I hope it helps them get adopted.

I also noticed that there isn't many "flies-in-the-eyes" descriptions of dogs. They all seem very happy, with lots of smiling dog pictures and very positive descriptions. I'm glad that's the way these dogs are advertised, I would want to adopt a happy dog too!
